The short version: the application collects nothing and sends nothing. The only information that ever leaves your computer is what you give our payment provider when you buy a licence.

The application

VerseCut has no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting, no advertising identifiers and no cloud storage. It does not upload your media, projects, captions or exports, and it does not check for updates on its own.

After setup, VerseCut makes no network connection. The installer contacts the internet once, to download the parts it needs from their official sources: Python (python.org on Windows; the python-build-standalone project on a Mac), the speech-to-text packages from the Python Package Index, and the Whisper speech model from Hugging Face. The video engine is included in the VerseCut download. From then on, editing, transcription, export and licence activation all happen on your own computer. The one exception: if setup could not finish downloading the speech model, VerseCut downloads it the first time you click Transcribe, and tells you it is doing so.

VerseCut's window is shown by Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome when they are installed (otherwise your default browser), running in a separate profile with background networking, component updates, sync and usage pings switched off. The browser is your own software and its own privacy policy applies to it.

The application runs a small engine on your machine at 127.0.0.1, reachable only from that machine, so that the VerseCut window can talk to it. Nothing on that engine is exposed to your network or to the internet.

Your files stay where you put them: projects in Documents › VerseCut › Projects, exports in Videos › VerseCut Exports (~/Movies/VerseCut Exports on a Mac), and a cache of thumbnails and waveforms in your local application data folder. You can delete any of them yourself at any time.

Licences

A paid licence is a small signed file. VerseCut verifies its signature on your computer against a key built into the application. There is no activation server, no account and no online check, so a licence works on a machine that has never been connected to the internet. The licence file holds the name and email you gave at checkout, your plan, your seat count, and either a renewal date or the release line a one-time licence covers.

The Machine ID

VerseCut shows a Machine ID, in the form VC-4J7Q-2M8T-95XD, on the Licence screen.

It is a one-way hash of a few hardware and operating-system details. It contains no name, no serial number, no address, no MAC address in readable form and no account identifier, and it cannot be turned back into any of those things. Two different computers produce different IDs; the same computer produces the same ID each time, which is the whole point of it.

The Machine ID is stored only on your computer. We never collect it, and the application never transmits it. The only way we ever see it is if you choose to send it to us — for example when you ask for a licence to be locked to specific machines, or when you ask support to move a seat to a new computer. If you do send it, we keep it with your licence record and use it for nothing else.

Buying a licence

When you buy a plan, our payment provider acts as merchant of record. It processes your name, email address, billing country and payment details under its own privacy policy, and it collects and remits VAT and sales tax on our behalf. We never see your card number.

From the provider we receive your name, email address, country, the plan you bought and the order number. We use them to issue your licence, to email it to you, to handle refunds and to answer support questions. We keep them for as long as we are required to for tax and accounting purposes.

We do not sell, rent or share this information for advertising, and we do not use it to profile you.

This website

The website is a set of static pages. It sets no cookies of its own and runs no advertising or cross-site tracking.

Our host keeps ordinary server logs — IP address, page requested, time, browser string — for security and to count visits, and these are deleted on the host's normal schedule. If we ever add site analytics, we will use a service that stores no personal data and no cookies, and we will say so here first.

The checkout is loaded from our payment provider when you click a buy button, and at that point the provider's own cookies and privacy policy apply. Until you click, nothing from the provider is loaded.

Your choices

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask for a copy, ask us to correct it or ask us to delete it. Email capture@stateam.net and we will reply within 30 days. Deleting your record does not stop your licence working, because your licence is verified on your own computer and not by us.

Children

VerseCut is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Changes

If this notice changes we will update the date at the top and describe what changed.
